10 Eco-Friendly Brands from California

From eco-friendly cosmetics to luxury pet beds, these 10 eco-conscious brands show their love and passion for the planet.

**Update**

We originally listed the following brands in good faith.

But with a little digging, we found that half of them have supply chains that stretch from countries that condone slave labor.

Also, shipping materials across the Pacific Ocean negates any positive environmental impact they may have had.

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend all of them anymore.

RAREFORM

Source: RAREFORM website
  • Based In: Agoura Hills, California, United States
  • Product Category: Bags, backpacks, accessories and surf
  • Price Range: Around $30-120

If you want to wear something unique, RAREFORM may be just the thing you’re looking for.

RAREFORM recycles billboard vinyl and transforms it into unique and durable bags.

Since billboards are strong enough to withstand extreme weather, yet lightweight enough to be taken down easily, RAREFORM products are long-lasting, waterproof and light.

Over the last six years, RAREFORM has repurposed 2 million pounds of vinyl that was destined for landfills.

Used billboards are shipped to their warehouse in California, then sorted, washed and hand-cut into designs, making them one of a kind.

RAREFORM photographs each bag to ensure that you’re getting the exact same one you bought.

TOMS

Toms
Source: TOMS website
  • Based In: Los Angeles, California, United States
  • Product Category: Footwear, eyewear and apparel
  • Price Range: Around $50-150

TOMS is one of the world’s best recognized eco-friendly brands.

They’re not just dedicated to sustainability, but their entire business model is focused on making the world a better place — one pair of shoes at a time.

Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS more than a decade ago after traveling and witnessing countless children growing up without shoes.

To solve this problem, Blake Mycoskie started a business that donates a pair of shoes to disadvantaged children every time a customer purchases a pair.

TOMS provides clean drinking water, eye care and safe birth kits to communities in need around the world.

TOMS also respects the Earth, using recyclable and recycled materials to make their shoes and shoe boxes.

**Revision**

In keeping with the theme of this site, we found that Toms sources cotton from the Xinjiang region of China, purchases rubber soles in the Chao Yang District of Beijing and manufactures in Wenzhou, China. While they do more good than harm, we can’t fully recommend them as a brand, since some of their earnings will fund the CCP. We will continue to find evil-free companies you can be confident in.

PATAGONIA

Source: PATAGONIA website
  • Based In: Ventura, California, United States
  • Product Category: Outdoor clothing and gear
  • Price Range: Around $15-900

PATAGONIA is one of the most popular outdoor brands in the world.

With a wide selection of durable clothing, PATAGONIA aims to create the best quality products, without harming the environment.

PATAGONIA is aware that it’s nearly impossible to be 100% eco-friendly. But still, with business transparency, this brand always looks for better ways to produce products.

According to their blog, PATAGONIA contributes 1% of their revenue to Earth Tax, which funds grassroots environmental organizations to take down dams, restore forests and protect endangered species.

**Revision**

We also discovered that Patagonia does a certain percentage of their manufacturing in China. According to their Nov 2019 manufacturing report, 7 out of the 75 facilities they use are located in China. This is not horrible, but we can’t fully recommend them as a brand, since some of their revenue will end up in the hands of the CCP. We will continue to try to find evil-free companies you can be confident in.

**Revision**

We also learned that Stasher, *sigh*, makes their products in China. We can’t fully recommend them as a brand, since some of their revenue will end up in the hands of the CCP. We will continue to try to find evil-free companies you can be confident in.

After trying unsuccessfully to contact PLAY to find out where they source their materials from, we have to assume they’re from overseas. Therefore we cannot fully recommend this brand.
